Go through the steps with them and they will soon know how to do tricks on a snowboard. It may take a little time but after a few initial bumps they will soon be doing ‘roast beefs’ and ‘backside 180’s’.
Mastering Jumps
Jumps are a basic trick and an essential part of learning how to do tricks on a snowboard. Before you can jump a snowboard you need to learn how to Ollie. The Ollie is a pretty simple trick that you can do on flat ground.
All you need to do is crouch slightly on your board, putting the weight gradually on your back foot. Then spring up so that the nose of your board is in the air, then get the other end of the board into the air as well. Your whole board should be in the air vertically for a few seconds before landing.
Once you have mastered the Ollie on flat land you are ready for the next part on how to do tricks on a snowboard. You can now move on to doing it on a slight incline. Once you can do an Ollie comfortably on an incline you are ready to do a jump. Find a nice jump with about a foot or two of height. You should be able to land on a hill, not flat ground.
Approach the edge of the jump and steady yourself. Your board should be off the edge of the jump a little, and flat. It’s always a little nerve wracking when you are first learning how to do tricks on a snowboard. To start the jump you need to do an Ollie.
You need to stay upright throughout the jump and land. Make sure that you’re knees are bent a little before you are about to land. You should land on the flat of your board; your jump needs work if you are landing on the edges of your board. This is the starting point of learning how to do tricks on a snowboard. You will soon learn many more.
